Since occasional drops of water are how the boiler relieves excess pressure, a large amount of water coming out could mean the outlet pipe is working overtime and dripping more frequently. If you find water directly below the boiler on a daily basis, this may suggest that you need to reduce the pressure inside the tank.
Normally, the water gets heated by a gas flame in your central heating system, or by any other fire (wood, gas, oil, coal, garbage) in case of district heating. So, a hot gas heats water, which heats the air in your rooms. So in fact it is very similar to a central heating.
A donkey boiler is a water-heating system installed outdoors. Based on the "donkey boilers" on ships' decks for use when the ships are in port, donkey boilers are an economical way to warm water for use indoors or outdoors. The simplest systems involve a metal drum filled with water and heated by a wood fire.
Re: Bury Depth of Fire Mains Pipe (Commercial Application) 02/14/2011 9:54 AM Many references, standards, and local regulations etc. discuss minimum depths for water etc. pipelines, and as noted on this thread any applicable requirements should be consulted.
When the gauge on the pipe hits 30 PSI, water starts getting released by the PRV, which is rated 30 PSI, so that seems to confirm the PSI reading from the pipe gauge. I don’t know which temperature reading is correct. Around 200 degrees on the pipe gauge, the boiler shut off, but the temperature continued rising to 210.

Boiler pipe size range complied with the different ASTM standard required. Like ASTM A106 or ASTM 179, 192 etc. But most of the boiler pipe size is small, outer diameter usually less than 1 1/2" (1/4", 1/2", 3/4", 1" and 1 1/2"). Then 2", 2 1/2", 3" and maximum to 4". Medium and high pressure boiler pipe differences
Fire fighting pipe is a type of normal carbon steel pipe used to convey fire suppression agent such as water or gas. Usually it is red in color. But light-wall pipes have a galvanized exterior of a silvery appearance. Installation of red steel pipe is limited to wet pipe sprinkler systems only.
Hello all, The house I inspected yesterday had a boiler. I have two questions about it: Can the hot water pipes get hot enough to cause a problem if they are touching the paper vapor barrier on the insulation? The reason I ask is I noticed a black mark on the insulation paper right where a 90 (elbow) was touching the paper. It almost looked like a burn mark.
Recirculating Hot Water Can Corrode Pipes At a recently opened hotel near Lake Tahoe, a guest reported a small leak in the ceiling. Investigation revealed the source: a pinhole leak in a copper pipe that was part of the 15-story building'srecirculating hot-water system. A similar leak was reported soon after then another and another.
pitting can result with possible rupture of boiler condensate piping or boiler tubes. 3.3.4 Rusty water in the boiler gage glass is a sure sign of acid corrosion in the boiler feedwater/condesate system or in the boiler itself. 3.3.5 Make-up water is the major source of carbon dioxide. The first priority is to minimize the amount of make-up water.
Hot water heating systems are built around the premise of radiant heat. Water is heated by a boiler and circulated throughout a building--usually homes (older homes, especially)--through a series of pipes that heat radiators that give off heat. The heat transfers to the air in the room.
One of the copper pipes seems to be connected to the heating circuit on the HWC, the iron pipes are disconnected from previous work done on the house. Not sure, yet, of the other copper pipe. The back boiler and pipes on the left hand side are in the picture below.

A fire-tube boiler is a type of boiler in which hot gases pass from a fire through one or (many) more tubes running through a sealed container of water. The heat of the gases is transferred through the walls of the tubes by thermal conduction, heating the water and ultimately creating steam.. The fire-tube boiler developed as the third of the four major historical types of boilers: low
The boiler's job is to apply heat to water to create steam. There are two approaches: fire tube and water tube. A fire-tube boiler was more common in the 1800s. It consists of a tank of water perforated with pipes. The hot gases from a coal or wood fire run through the pipes to heat the water in the tank, as shown here:
Ask This Old House plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey helps a homeowner install an indirect water heater onto an existing steam boiler to boost the amount of hot water in the house.
The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded at 10:56 a.m. to 222 Foster St., a four-unit building called Parma Gardens.. Before the fire was declared knocked down about a half hour later, the fire went to two alarms. The fire, which traveled along the heating pipe from the basement to the second floor, did an estimated $200,000 in damage, the department reports.
Common Boiler Problems: Causes and Quick Fixes While we always recommend calling a trained engineer to help with boiler problems, many technicians charge by the hour. Considering this, if you are able to diagnose the issue and take a few preliminary steps before you book a repair, you could save the engineers time and cut the cost of your service.
The pipe is small enough to prevent water from circulating in it. The water around the plug is much cooler than the water in the boiler as long as the end of the pipe is below the water level. However, when the water level drops below the open end of the pipe, the cool water runs out of the pipe and steam heats the plug.

Chemical Cleaning Of Boilers - To Clean or Not To Clean Removing Deposits. Chemical cleaning has been considered a necessary part of boiler maintenance for many years. The objective of a chemical cleaning is to safely remove all the deposits from the inside of the boiler tubes. If there is a major contamination of the boiler water, a

On an addtition the plumber ran hot water baseboard pipes touching some romex wires. I'm guessing they get to 160 f and I'm not thrilled to see this. Should I cover the pipe with a fiberglass insulation tube and seperate the wires so they at least don't touch with clips? Or does more need doing here
A fire tube boiler creates heat in pipes to heat the water surrounding the tubes, and the boiler vessel itself contains the water being heated. While this type of commercial boiler would be ideal for both low- and high-pressure steam, or for hot water applications, it is limited in the amount of pressure available.
